Platform and Tax Reduction Plan
I am committed to executing the will of the individuals living in Calgary-Glenmore, as well as the policies passed by grassroots involvement of UCP members. Below are the priorities I have developed after knocking on over 10,000 doors and speaking with hundreds of individuals.
ALBERTA'S OIL & GAS SECTOR
Alberta’s oil is some of the most ethically produced oil in the world, yet false perceptions about our oil and gas sector still plague voters in many provinces, as exemplified by the recent BC government. If elected, I will champion our oil & gas sector across Canada and abroad and regularly consult with oil & gas professionals on ways that the Alberta government can assist with advancing oil & gas projects. We cannot continue to let foreign lobbyists hold our key sector back! In addition, I will fight to remove the Alberta Carbon Tax.
42% of the 10,000 doors I have knocked on identified oil & gas as their top priority.
ALBERTA'S HEALTHCARE SYSTEM
Under the NDP, we have seen a decline in many aspects of our healthcare system. Most notably, 18% of Alberta’s hospital beds are now occupied by patients waiting for continuing care beds elsewhere, the highest-ever level recorded in the province. We need to rein in unions, reduce middle management and bureaucracy, and embrace new technology in the healthcare system. It is possible to increase the quality and reduce the cost of our healthcare system simultaneously.
22% of the 10,000 doors I have knocked on identified healthcare as their top priority.
ALBERTA'S EDUCATION SYSTEM
I will fight to ensure that curriculum is focused solely on educating world class thinkers and not on telling our children what they must believe. Choice in education must be protected through strong legislation and a focus on liberty and freedom. We must defend private schools, charter schools, and homeschoolers from overbearing legislation that robs them of their autonomy.
21% of the 10,000 doors I have knocked on identified education as their top priority.
If elected, I will reintroduce the Regulatory Burden Reduction Act and fight to alleviate the current lengthy and costly administrative process for businesses. This bill would mean that for every new regulation the government introduces, they would have to delete one existing regulation. This type of legislation has worked well at other levels of government in Canada and in other jurisdictions around the world to control the administrative burden on the private sector.
15% of the 10,000 doors I have knocked on identified cutting red tape as their top priority.
LISTENING TO YOUR IDEAS
After knocking on over 10,000 doors over the last 6 months, I have heard the thoughts and ideas of hundreds of people. Listening to your ideas has been the best part of my campaign. I will continue to listen to your ideas and fight to implement them whenever possible. Together, we can reduce the tax burden and create a prosperous Alberta!
